Continuing our series of blogs highlighting our teams, this month we meet Angela, our Senior Client Relationship Manager.
Angela works with Louise Birnie, Commerical Director, together they make up the Client Relationship Team. If you’ve had on site training or called with any questions about your service then you might already know Angela. In this blog we find out more about what she does day to day and how she likes to unwind at the weekends.
What does the Client Relationship team do day to day?
Reactive support for clients takes priority. Most of my day to day tasks are focused on responding to enquiries about clients’ services or their requests for additional support. This could include hosting training sessions, tracking and monitoring their recycling performance, arranging to visit their site to audit their set up and make recommendations for improvements.
More broadly I work on communications plans for our clients to help educate and support their staff on how to recycle successfully and improve environmental performance and reduce their costs.
Best part of being in the team?
Over the ten years in my role, I have had the opportunity to get to know all types of businesses in Scotland both front of house and behind the scenes. This includes visits to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scottish Parliament, theatres, hotels and prominent offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. But it’s not all about the leading, big organisations we service – it’s really special to also be able to help smaller independent businesses in our community.
Whilst all businesses are unique, their requirement for a waste and recycling management company are largely the same. They all need waste removed from site and to be able to support clients in a sustainable way with an excellent reliable service is a privilege.
And the most challenging?
Recently it’s been tough listening to business owners frustrations about energy prices and the cost of living crisis. It’s sad to hear people say that due to these measures they are operating at a loss and probably need to close their businesses which they’ve worked so hard to make a success. Ultimately it’s a cost to our business to uplift and dispose of waste and recycling so we must charge for the service but clients are desperate to make savings. Sometimes I just can’t give them what they need.
What do you enjoy doing after hours?
Cold water swimming, spa days, cocktails, family time, climbing hills, cooking.
What’s your top environmental or recycling tip?
Don’t forget the waste hierarchy. Recycling is great BUT the key is prevention of waste in the first place.
